About the course
This 6-week course is designed to:
With a little bit of help from some very influential people in the industry we will help you redefine the foundational beliefs you hold about yourself whilst teaching you how to break through the music industry.
On week 6 we welcome one of the most accomplished DJ’s the dance music industry has ever seen, Joris Voorn. He’s curated his own line ups at Awakenings, packed out dance floors all over the world week on week, remixed Hot Chip and Underworld and claimed Essential New Tune with Pete Tong. We ask Joris what it took to go from DJ competition winner in Rotterdam in the early years to the heights that many DJ’s could only aspire to.

Our music business syllabus teaches a broad range of key skills and techniques to train the next generation of music entrepreneurs, artists and creators. By the end of it you will be clear about what empowers you to take action, what motivates you to achieve your vision and how you will get there.
The syllabus has been developed through Austen Smart’s direct involvement with key educational programmes such as Virgin Startup, Goldman Sachs and Said Business School, Oxford University. It has also been designed and collected through years of skin in the game with various wins (and losses) including major label deals with Armada Music and Sony Music UK.
Artists and entrepreneurs will share with you everything they have learnt about business — from multiple fabric Room 1 appearances to a live masterclass with Armin Van Buuren in Amsterdam. They have won remix competitions, signed multiple EPs to Joris Voorn’s label Rejected, collaborated on 2 EP’s with Groove Armada, achieved BBC R1’s essential new tune on their label which has over 50 releases. Founding FutureDJs together back in 2016, their journey has seen them establish close partnerships with both Pioneer DJ and Spotify and more recently graduating from Said Business School, Oxford University with Goldman Sachs.
Joris Voorn, a name synonymous with infectious House and Techno, has been at the forefront of Europe’s clubbing scene for a little over 20 years. The most renowned and instantly recognisable artist from Holland, representing underground house and techno on a wider global stage.
Joris is the embodiment of the modern-art and tech-savvy touring DJ, with both feet planted in firmly in the underground techno world — a label owner, DJ, Producer and all-round music lover, we’ll be exploring the mind of one of the scene’s finest selectors.
