About the live session
In this first of a series of artist mentorship sessions with Ultra Publishing, we learn what actually happens when artists work with songwriters and producers, by getting into the early stages of a collaborative project.
Every artist wants to craft their own sound, but where do they start? How can artists team up with producers to create a hit record? We start from the very top with Ultra Publishing producer & songwriter, Happy Cat Jay, to explore the nuts & bolts of what goes on behind the scenes.
In this session, Virtuoso members can participate in this live, interactive production workshop, focused on building a track from start to finish. Throughout the session, Happy Cat Jay will answer your questions and invite attendees to participate in the creative process. You can even submit your vocals, top-lines, melodies, percussion, FX to us ahead of the session. Creatively speaking, there are no rules – all we need is WAV files, submitted to us no later than Monday 17th January via [email protected].

About the teacher
Influenced by Jazz, Funk, Speed garage and everything in-between, Happy Cat Jay has got to be one of London’s most exciting and interesting producer/songwriters. A multi-talented musician whose tracks blend both analogue and digital recordings, his acclaimed 2020 ‘Moods’ EP was signed to the iconic Fat! Records. After signing with Ultra Music Publishing, 2021 saw him line up more dance-floor focussed singles including his Ultra Records Collaboration with Krystalroxx and DJ SKT ‘I don’t need a drug’.
