Why Virtuoso became a B Corp

Ever since Virtuoso started out over a year ago, we’ve been working hard to have a positive impact on the world. Not just by helping emerging musicians, but by actively striving to be a better business. As a company, it’s so important to us to do things the right way. That’s why we’re incredibly proud to be a B Corp business.

What is a B Corp?

B Corporations are businesses that balance purpose and profit. They are required to consider their impact on their workers, customers, community and the environment. This is a community spread across all sorts of industries with one common goal – using business as a force for good.

To get B Corp certification, companies must be certified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. We join a select group of other businesses including famous B corps such as Patagonia and The Body Shop.

Why become a B Corp?

A good business should be about much more than just making money. It’s about doing something that really matters and really makes a difference.

Traditionally, businesses have simply looked to create value for shareholders. This came at the expense of the workers, the community and the environment.

B Corp businesses do things differently. It’s often said that B Corp is to business what Fairtrade is to coffee. Instead of prioritising profit above all else, B Corps work for social and environmental change.

What has Virtuoso done?

As a B Corp business, we must be held to the highest standards in making sure we have a positive effect in all areas.

  • Environment – We have to think about the impact of everything we do on the environment and work to reduce our impact on the planet. We use 100% renewable energy to power our office and have installed electric car chargers with an aim to reduce our carbon footprint.

  • Workers – B Corps must consider their workers and provide them with fair wages and benefits. Here at Virtuoso, we think it’s important that everyone on this mission is treated properly. That’s why we’re committed to making this an amazing place to work.

  • Community – A crucial part of being a better business is giving back. That’s why we’re helping equalise the playing field in the music industry. With FutureDJs, we’re working to help female, trans and non-binary artists break into the music industry with free resources and lessons.
